To Dig or Not to Dig...That is the Question

Construction of our new home has been almost two years in the making, and after the drama of last week I for one was worried about whether or not it was even going to happen.  The only person we've dealt with as of last week is Jake.  Jake is wonderful; he keeps on top of things, answers all our questions. Jake makes us full of happy-happy joy-joy feelings.  Last week we met with the builder's administrative assistant.  She made me full of hate-hate feelings.  (I may even have dropped an f-bomb or two!)

Here's the scoop:  When we were picking out our trim items/colors, we found out that she-who-shall-not-be-named submitted our plans to the city for our building permit...without asking us which elevation we wanted...she picked one she liked and submitted it!  She didn't even apologize for it; tried to make us feel stupid, like we didn't know what we were talking about.

It gets worse.  Ben got a call from the foreman last week telling him they were going to stake out our house the next day in preparation of the dig.  Ben asked how they could do that when we hadn't told them where on the lot we wanted the house.  The foreman replied that the plot plan was already put together and he had planned to stake the lot the way it showed on the plot plan.  I don't think so.  Guess who put together the plot plan...Without. Asking. Us?  You got it!  Not only did she put the house in the wrong location...she flipped the layout of the floor plan!  Without. Asking. Us.  Because she thought it looked better that way on the plot plan to her.  To her!

We seriously considered backing out of everything.  I was sooo mad!  I was even madder than Ben - THAT's how mad I was.  WAS.  The good news is Jake smoothed everything over, and we will no longer be dealing with that witch.

Ben got another call from the foreman today.  They are staking tomorrow, according to our directions, and he wants Ben's approval before they dig.  Crossing my fingers that everything goes better from here on out.  We know from experience that new home construction can be challenging.  No one ever does things as well as we think they should, but we're hopeful that only the "normal" issues crop up and she-who-shall-not-be-named does not rear her ugly head again.
